The World of the Nutcracker

Today marks the twelfth day of Blogmas. Fifteen days of my thoughts, with some Christmas cheer sprinkled in.

If there is one thing that I could pick that always brings whimsy to my soul, it's the Nutcracker, especially with the music. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer, and his music illuminates great emotion. Listening to it in a theater and seeing it being danced to was almost a sort of worldly experience.

As a kid, I was shown the world of Barbie movies, one of the classics being Barbie in the Nutcracker. While I have a collection of all of the classics, this one has to be one of my favorites because of all the nostalgia that it holds. I remember watching when I was younger at my grandparents' house and wanting to be whisked away to that magical world. A world full of beautiful music, thoughtful characters, ethereal landscapes, and a rat king with his scepter. Who wouldn't wish to spend time in this world? In a way, it's simpler than the life I live. Maybe if I had Tchaikovsky compose songs correlating to my life, I would enjoy it as much as I enjoy the Nutcracker.

Sitting there in my seat, as the music began to rumble through the theater, I could feel my lips curl up in a smile. A smile that couldn't contain itself even if I had tried. It grew even bigger when it played the songs to my favorite dance scenes, mainly the ones with the snow fairies and the flower fairies. Although the romantic in me has loved and will continue to love the dance between Clara and the prince. They complement one another well, and I can feel the love between the two of them.

As I've mentioned before, the Christmas spirit hasn't quite touched me yet, which is hard because Christmas is in four days. This day has helped to give me a little shove in the right direction. Sometimes it takes time, and believe me when I say that this is something that is worth waiting for. In the meantime, I will watch Barbie's A Christmas Carol and drink a cup of hot cocoa. Sleep tight, as I fly through the worlds of the past, present, and future.
